Original family documents include letters, mortgages, military papers, deeds, agreements, bills, receipts, wills and estate papers, and legal papers. Families represented by a substantial number of documents include Beakes, Biggin, Brown, Bull, Carpenter, Corwin, Dolaway, Doty, Gibbs, Hasbrouck, Hulse, Lyon, Marsh, Moon, Morgan, Norris, Reeve, Reynolds, Royce, Schoonmaker, Stivers, Swayze, Thrall, Townsend, Tuthill, Van Duzer, Wallace, Webb, and Wheeler. Items of note include the diary of Mrs. William Dolson, Middletown, 1857-1864, concerning social life, clothing, weather, deaths, domestic chores, and trips to New York City; material on Lydia Sayer Hasbrouck, women's dress reformer, 1881-1956, with copies of her journal THE SIBYL, 1856-1860; and school essays of Anna Van Duzer and letters from her former school friends, 1846-1853, concerning social life, friendship, and an 1848 fire in Brooklyn.
